How am I Charged for Alerts?

Learn how billing is done with Chargeback.io

How Much Does Chargeback.io Cost?

We charge the following rates per alert:

💡 Read this guide to see which alerts will work best for your needs.

1. How You're Charged

For example, if you receive an Ethoca alert and refund the transaction, the cost is $29 plus the value of the refunded transaction.

That single alert helps you avoid much larger losses, like:

  • Prevents chargeback fees: Typically $10 – $20 per chargeback + the value of the refunded transaction.
  • Prevents double-chargebacks: One order can sometimes lead to multiple chargebacks, and multiple fees.
  • Keeps your chargeback rate low: Alerts don’t count toward your chargeback ratio, reducing the risk of account deactivation by your payment processor.
  • Lowers MATCH list risk: Fewer chargebacks means less chance of being blacklisted by processors.
  • Avoids monitoring program penalties: High chargeback rates can place you in monitoring programs that can carry tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
Paying $15 or $29 for an alert is often far cheaper than the combined costs of fees, penalties, money holds, and long-term account risks that come with unmanaged chargebacks.

⚠️ Chargeback.io does not control which alerts you’re charged for. The type of alert depends on the card network and the customer’s bank.

For example, if you get an Ethoca alert for a Visa transaction instead of a CDRN alert, that’s determined by the bank’s participation in Ethoca, not by Chargeback.io.

How Does Billing With Chargeback.io Work?

  • Instant billing: When you receive an alert, the fee is immediately deducted from your Balance.
  • False alerts: If you get an alert for a non-existent transaction, file a Manual Credit Request. You’ll receive the credit in your Balance instantly.
    • For other errors not tied to false alerts, contact support for assistance.
  • No duplicate charges: If you enable RDR + Ethoca or RDR + CDRN, you won’t be billed twice for the same transaction.
    • In rare cases, enabling Ethoca and CDRN together can create duplicates on some transactions because of overlap. If that happens, file a Manual Credit Request and we’ll refund the duplicate.
  • Billing system updates:
    • If you signed up before September 15, 2025, your current billing cycle continues until you move to our new system.
    • The old billing system retires on October 18, 2025. By then, all users must have a Balance.

What Happens if I Miss a Payment?

1. Payment Attempts

  1. If you use Shopify Payments, we’ll send you an invoice.
  2. If the invoice expires (or if you pay only by card):
    1. We’ll try charging your card daily for 3 days.
    2. After that, we’ll keep trying for 7 more days.
  3. After 10 consecutive failed days, we’ll stop attempts. Your account will be deactivated and unenrolled.
  4. If your Balance is Critical, the same rule applies after 10 days.

2. Notifications

  • During the first 3 days of failed attempts, we’ll email you each time a charge fails.

3. Account Impact

  • If you have consecutive failed payment attempts, we’ll deactivate all accounts, even if the failed payments came from different alert sets on a different account.

4. What “Deactivated & Unenrolled” Means

  • Account status changes to Inactive.
  • No new alerts can be received.
    • This applies to descriptors that have the Unenrolled status.
  • You can still manage existing alerts.
  • You can’t add or manage descriptors.
  • You can top up your Balance.

5. Reactivation

To reactivate your account:

  • Update your payment information.
  • Pay any outstanding invoices.
    • Reach out to our support specialists to request overdue invoices.
    • Check your email inbox in case they’ve already been sent.
  • Make sure your Balance is above the Critical level and at least at the Minimum requirement.

Once those steps are complete, your account will automatically reactivate within 1 or 2 business days.

⚠️ You might continue to receive alerts after unenrollment. Disconnecting from RDR, CDRN, and Ethoca can take time.

Chargeback.io can’t control how long the providers take to finalize the disconnection.
