Ethoca and CDRN may sometimes trigger on the same dispute, potentially leading to duplicate charges.

We will refund any duplicate charge.

RDR alerts will not deliver duplicate alerts because the alert happens in a different stage of the dispute process. Visa will send TC15 messages to the acquirer (business bank) on behalf of the issuer (customer’s bank).

CDRN and Ethoca are between the merchant and issuer.

1. Ethoca & CDRN

Costs:

  • Ethoca: $29 per alert
  • CDRN: $15 per alert

Ethoca alerts mostly cover Mastercard transactions (globally). CDRN has little coverage for Mastercard transactions that are made in the US.

They do have some coverage for:

  • Visa: CDRN only covers Visa purchases in the US; Ethoca covers global transactions.
  • American Express and Discover: Only works for fraud chargeback reason codes.
  • JCB (Ethoca-only): Very little coverage for fraudulent JCB purchases in the US.

CDRN and Ethoca alerts require you to connect a payment processor to your account to use auto-refund. Otherwise, you must manually refund transactions triggered within these alerts.

If Cartes Bancaires cards are ran as Mastercard, Ethoca has a chance to catch chargebacks from these cards as well.

2. RDR

Cost: $15 per alert

Enable RDR (Rapid Dispute Resolution) if you accept Visa cards globally. However, RDR only covers chargebacks related to Visa cards.

RDR will automatically refund transactions. It does not matter whether you enable or disable auto-refund. Thus, manual refunds are not possible with RDR.
