When you need to connect an integration

Learn whether it's necessary to connect to an integration on Chargeback.io.

This article helps you decide whether you need to connect a payment processor integration to Chargeback.io. It explains when an integration is useful, when you can leave auto-refund off, and when you don't need an integration at all.

This article is about the decision to connect an integration. It does not cover the step-by-step setup for a specific processor, and it does not explain how to set up auto-refund thresholds. For those, see the connection guide for your processor or the auto-refund setup guide.

When to Connect a Payment Processor to an Integration

Connect a payment processor to an integration if:

  • You want automatic refunds.

  • We support the integration you need.

You can also keep an integration connected without auto-refund enabled. In that case, the system still searches your processor for transactions and may provide direct transaction links for faster lookup.

Keeping the integration enabled (but auto-refund disabled) gives you flexibility. You can decide case-by-case whether to auto-refund alerts without disconnecting and reconnecting.

If we don’t support your processor, you can still use chargeback prevention alerts, but you can only manually refund Ethoca Alerts and Cardholder Dispute Resolution Network (CDRN) alerts. If you're signing up, you will want to click Other during onboarding.

👉 If you already have an account, you won’t see Other. Instead, add billing descriptors and ARNs in your enrollment settings.

How to Disable Auto-Refund for CDRN & Ethoca

  1. In the left sidebar, click Alerts to expand the dropdown.

  2. Select Configure.

  3. Click Auto-Refund.

  4. Toggle off Ethoca & CDRN (or keep them on and set a refund threshold).

When Integrations Aren’t Necessary

You don’t need an integration if you plan to manually refund all pre-dispute alerts.

⚠️ Important: Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR) always auto-refunds transactions, regardless of integration status. To prevent RDR from auto-refunding everything, follow our guide on creating RDR rules.
