Follow these steps to connect PayPal to Chargeback:

  1. Click Connect

  2. Enter your Client ID

  3. Enter your Client Secret

  4. Click Connect

How to Find Your PayPal Client ID & Client Secret

1. Log into the PayPal Developer Dashboard

There are two ways to navigate to your Developer dashboard.

1. Developer dashboard portal (easiest method)

Upon reaching this menu, login with your PayPal business account credentials

2. Through your PayPal Business account

  1. Click "Developer" on the navigation menu

2. Navigate to "My Apps & Credentials"

Click on the "My Apps & Credentials" tab in the navigation bar.

You'll see two environments: Sandbox and Live. The toggle should be set to Live. If not, set it to Live.

Setting the toggle to Sandbox allows you to make changes to your developer account without impacting your app connections and PayPal account. It also allows you to make test payments.

Keep the toggle set to Live when connecting to Chargeback.

Important: Sandbox credentials are for testing only. You'll need separate Live credentials for actual transactions.

3. Find Your Client ID and Client Secret

Under API Credentials, you will find REST API apps. Then you will see the following:

  • Client ID: Your client ID.

  • Secret: Your Client Secret.

Copy each credential by clicking the copy icon beside each set of characters.

3. Enable Transaction Search

Click on your app name.

It will usually be titled "Default Application."

Scroll down until reaching the Features section.

Toggle the checkmark beside "Transaction search." The box must be checked.

How to Create a New API App

To create a new app in your PayPal Developer dashboard, follow these steps:

1. Create a New App

Click the "Create App" button.

Give your app a descriptive name and select the appropriate account association. For instance, you could name the app "Chargeback". This name will help you identify the application used for PayPal integration with Chargeback.

If you accept payments as an individual and do not operate on platforms, select Merchant. Otherwise, select Platform.

When selecting Platform, you will also need to select a country or region.

The following countries and regions are supported:

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Spain

  • Italy

  • France

  • Canada

  • Australia

Upon finishing this information, click Create App.

2. Retrieve your Client ID and Client Secret

After creating an app, PayPal will redirect you to the app’s page, which will present your API credentials. If PayPal did not redirect you, navigate to Apps & Credentials and click on your app’s name.

Press the icon beside your Client ID to copy it to your browser's clipboard. Then, paste it into the Chargeback PayPal integration page. Do the same with the Client Secret.

You do not need to press the eyeball icon to reveal the Client Secret to copy it unless you prefer to select it with your cursor and manually copy it.

Tip: Your Client Secret is like a password. Keep it confidential.
