Shopify Integration Guide

Guide for linking Shopify Payments with Chargeback.io

How to Connect Shopify to Chargeback.io

Follow this guide to connect Shopify to your Chargeback.io account. Note that Step 2 will focus on adding the actual app.

Step 1: Add Descriptor(s) & ARNs

Here's a guide to help you find your descriptor(s) in Shopify Payments. If you don’t have ARNs, review this article for alternative options.

How to add your descriptor(s) and ARNs:

  1. In the left sidebar, click Alerts.
  2. Select Configure from the dropdown.
  3. Choose the alert network (e.g., Ethoca) and click + Enroll More Descriptors.
  4. For RDR, ARNs are required. If you don’t have ARNs, click Need Help Finding ARNs to override the requirement or add your BIN and CAID.
    1. Send your BIN and CAID to our support team. Ensure you include the email for the account that you used to help us find your account.
  5. Enter your descriptor(s) and ARNs (if applicable).
  6. Click Continue.

From there, it'll typically take around 12 hours to connect to Ethoca and CDRN. It takes around 7 business days to connect to RDR, but can take more than 14 business days if there's a backlog.

See this piece for more information on the time it takes to enroll.

Step 2: Connect the Shopify App

These methods show you how to connect the Shopify Payments integration / app.

Method 1 (Recommended)
  1. In the left sidebar, click Integrations.
  2. Find the Shopify card and click Connect.
  3. You’ll be redirected to the Shopify App page.
  4. Log in to Shopify and select your store.
  5. Click Install and review the requested permissions.
  6. Click Install again to confirm.
  7. You’ll be redirected to Chargeback.io and the app will connect automatically.
Method 2 (Shopify App Store)
  1. Go to the Shopify App Store.
  2. Search for Chargeback: Auto-Prevention.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Follow steps 5 – 6 from Method 1.

Step 3: Set Up Auto-Refund

Skip this step if you plan to automatically refund all disputed transactions.

To set an auto-refund threshold (limit automatic refunds above a certain amount):

  1. Click Alerts in the left sidebar.
  2. Choose Configure.
  3. Switch to the Auto-Refund tab.
  4. Ensure the toggle beside Ethoca and CDRN is green (enabled).
  5. Click Edit.
  6. Set your desired threshold and save.

⚠️ Transactions above the threshold will appear as manual alerts that require action. Unresolved alerts may still result in chargebacks.

Step 4: Add a Balance

A Balance is required to exit Demo Mode and begin enrollment.

  1. In the lower-left corner of your dashboard, click Please top up balance here.
  2. Under Current Balance, click Add Funds.
  3. Enter your desired amount and click Continue.

Funds will be charged to the card you added during signup.

If you don’t have a Balance, you won’t be able to add a new card yourself.  To update your payment method, contact our support.

    Troubleshooting

    Error: “Account Already Connected”

    1. If you have another Chargeback.io account, log into that one and check if it’s already linked to your Shopify store.
    2. If not, uninstall the app from Shopify and reinstall it.
