This article explains how to move your Ethoca, Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR), and Cardholder Dispute Resolution Network (CDRN) coverage to Chargeback.io from another chargeback alerts provider.
This article covers transferring to Chargeback.io. If you're moving away from Chargeback.io to another provider instead, see Transfer your alert service from Chargeback.io to another provider. This article does not cover moving a billing descriptor between two Chargeback.io accounts.
⚠️ Pay all outstanding invoices and bills with your current provider before requesting unenrollment or transfer. Unresolved balances block the transfer.
There are two ways to move your coverage to Chargeback.io. Method 2 (Transfer) takes longer but avoids a gap in alert coverage, so we recommend it for most merchants.
Method 1: Unenroll from Your Previous Provider
This is the fastest way to move, but it leads to a gap in alert coverage.
Step 1: Request release
Ask your current provider to unenroll or release your BINs, CAID, and billing descriptor using this script:
Hello. Can you please release my BINs, CAID, and billing descriptors? Once released, could you provide the Case IDs from Ethoca and Verifi?
ℹ️ Adjust the script for the alert networks you're unenrolling from. Remove "BINs and CAID" if you're unenrolling only from CDRN or Ethoca. If you're only unenrolling from Ethoca Alerts, remove "Verifi".
Step 2: Confirm with Chargeback.io support
Once your previous provider confirms that your descriptors, and your BINs and CAID (if applicable), are released, and once you have the Case IDs, reach out to our support. Tell our support you're unenrolled and provide the Case IDs.
ℹ️ Case IDs help ensure a smoother transfer.
Cons of Unenrolling Instead of Transferring
Releasing descriptors instead of transferring them has several drawbacks:
Coverage may lapse for a week or more.
CDRN could be placed under a cooling period, preventing transfer.
Your billing descriptor may not be released correctly, leading to repeated back-and-forth over several days.
Method 2 avoids many of these issues.
Method 2: Transfer
This way takes a bit longer but avoids a gap in coverage.
Step 1: Create an Account With Chargeback.io
Sign up and complete onboarding. For detailed instructions, see our onboarding guide.
⚠️ Once your account is created, you don't need to contact Chargeback.io support to start the transfer.
Step 2: Reach Out to Your Current Provider
Ask your provider's support team to transfer your Ethoca and Verifi coverage using this script:
Hi, we are going to transfer our Ethoca and Verifi coverage to Chargeback.io and want to do it without any gap in service.
Could you please initiate the transfer and share the related Case IDs or reference numbers once the requests have been submitted?
When contacting Ethoca, please request that our descriptor is reassigned to Chargeback Solutions FZCO.
When completing the Verifi transfer form (included in the message) and sending it to Verifi, please CC [email protected] and [email protected].
Thank you.
Also, remember to include the Requesting Entity - Transfer BIN and CAID for RDR in this message.
ℹ️ Send your provider the enrollment form from the button below.
Considerations when sending this script:
Getting Case IDs makes the transfer process smoother.
For a partial transfer (some descriptors, not all), adjust the script to name the specific descriptors.
Before the transfer fully goes through, you may still receive charges from your previous provider on alerts.
Step 3: Send Case IDs to Chargeback.io
Once your previous provider sends your Case IDs, reach out to Chargeback.io support and tell them you have the Case IDs for your transfer. We'll forward them to our Enrollment team, who'll pass them to Ethoca and Verifi.
This step isn't always mandatory, but it makes the transfer smoother.
Step 4: Check Your Email
Once we receive a request to transfer the descriptors to us, our Enrollment team CCs your registered email to keep you updated on the transfer.
Checking your email is the quickest way to get updates. If you aren't CC'd, check your junk and spam folders. If you still aren't CC'd, follow up with your previous provider and ask whether they started the transfer.
⚠️ Transfers may take longer if started close to a weekend, since Verifi and Ethoca don't process transfers on weekends.
Step 5: Wait
Transfers can take up to 2 weeks, since 4 parties have to coordinate to complete the process.
The actual timeline depends on how quickly your previous provider initiates the process and how fast Verifi processes the request. Delays beyond 2 weeks can happen, particularly when the previous provider is slow to respond. If your transfer hasn't progressed after 2 weeks, contact Chargeback.io support for an update.
Here's what happens once the transfer is done:
Your descriptors in the Chargeback.io dashboard show the Active status.
You receive an automated email confirmation.
You receive your first Ethoca and CDRN alerts within 2 business days, and RDR alerts within 2 to 7 business days.
Troubleshooting
Your transfer hasn't progressed after 2 weeks
The most common cause is that your previous provider never actually submitted the request to Verifi and Ethoca.
Fix: Ask your previous provider to confirm they submitted the request, and to share the Verifi and Ethoca Case IDs. Send those Case IDs to Chargeback.io support.
You may have sent your details to the wrong provider
Some providers have similar names (for example, Chargeflow and Chargeback.io), and it's easy to reply to the wrong email thread and give your previous provider the wrong details. This can send your transfer to the wrong destination.
Fix: Confirm you're working with Chargeback.io / Chargeback Solutions FZCO. Ask your previous provider whether they submitted a release/unenrollment or a transfer to a specific provider, and have them correct or reissue the request if it went to the wrong place.
You weren't CC'd on transfer updates
Fix: Check your spam and junk folders first. If you still don't see anything, confirm with your previous provider that they started the transfer, then let Chargeback.io support know.
