This article applies to merchants enrolling in RDR through Chargeback.io who see the Verification Needed status on a billing descriptor in the Chargeback.io dashboard.
Why Does My Descriptor Have the Verification Needed Status?
Your billing descriptor has the Verification Needed status because Verifi must verify that the BIN and CAID on that descriptor are assigned only to your business for RDR enrollment.
This status appears when you enroll in RDR using BINs and CAID.
If Verifi can’t confirm that your BIN and CAID are unique to your business, then your descriptor can’t be enrolled until that review is complete.
How to Continue Your RDR Enrollment
If your billing descriptor shows Verification Needed, then Chargeback.io Support will contact you within 48 hours.
You can speed things up before Support reaches out by collecting the information they’ll ask for.
When Support contacts you, they’ll tell you which descriptor could not be enrolled and share any descriptor hints that Verifi returned.
Step 1: Contact Your Payment Processor
If your billing descriptor has Verification Needed, then contact your current payment processor and ask for your historical billing descriptors
Send this message to your processor:
I’m enrolling in RDR Alerts through my third-party vendor, Chargeback.io. To complete this process, I need a full list of my historical billing descriptors and BIN + CAIDs.
Could you please provide this information as soon as possible? Let me know if you need anything else from me. I appreciate your help.
If you’ve used more than one payment processor, then contact each previous processor and send the same message.
Step 2: Send the Historical Descriptors to Chargeback.io
Once you receive your historical billing descriptors, send them to Chargeback.io Support.
In your message, include:
The business account the descriptors belong to
The full list of historical billing descriptors
Any additional information from your processor that helps verify ownership
If Support can verify that the descriptor history matches your business, then they can continue the RDR enrollment review with Verifi.
If the Descriptor Hints Don’t Match Your Records
If the descriptor hints from Support don't match any historical billing descriptors you recognize, then first contact any previous payment processors you have not contacted yet.
If you already contacted all previous processors, then ask each processor whether your BINs are shared with other merchants.
If your BINs are shared, then your business account cannot be enrolled in RDR through Chargeback.io, Verifi, or any other alerts reseller.
That happens because shared BINs can cause you to receive alerts that belong to other merchants, which can lead to incorrect alerts and unnecessary fees.
What to Do if Your BINs are Shared
If your processor confirms that your BINs are shared, then you will need to enroll in CDRN instead for added Visa dispute alert coverage.
This changes your enrollment path. It doesn't remove the issue with shared BINs in RDR.
