This article applies to merchants who use Adyen as their payment processor. It shows you where to find your billing descriptor and your Visa ARNs inside Adyen so you can enroll in chargeback alerts with Chargeback.io.
It does not cover connecting Adyen to Chargeback.io, which is a separate process. For connection steps, see the Adyen connection guide. If you use a different payment processor, see that processor's descriptor and ARN guide instead.
How to Find Your Billing Descriptor in Adyen
In Adyen, your billing descriptor is called the transaction description. This is the text that appears on your customer's bank statement.
Follow these steps to find your billing descriptor with Adyen:
Log in to your live Customer Area.
Go to the merchant account or store you want to check.
Go to Settings > Transaction description.
Under Show on bank statements, check the settings (dynamic value, static business name, or static name and dynamic value).
If you have not customized your description, your descriptor the Name combined with the City and Country/Region from your merchant account address.
If you set a Doing Business As (DBA) name, that DBA value is your descriptor instead. Adyen always adds city and country/region to the end, even when you customize it.
Adyen limits the customizable part of the descriptor to 22 characters, including spaces. Anything longer is cut off.
If you use dynamic descriptors, contact Chargeback.io Support so we can align your enrollment with that format.
How to Find Your ARNs in Adyen
An Acquirer Reference Number (ARN) is a unique code that tracks a single transaction through the banking system. You need two Visa ARNs to set up with Chargeback.io. You don't need to submit more than two. This won't speed up enrollment.
Without ARNs, you cannot enroll under RDR alerts. Verifi requires these to verify merchant accounts.
Follow these steps to find your ARN with Adyen. You need to repeat this process two times since you need two Visa ARNs:
Log in to your Customer Area.
Go to Transactions > Payments.
Select the PSP Reference of your transaction.
Go to Payment events and find the number listed under ARN.
Source: Adyen
Adyen generates ARNs only for Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and Diners transactions. For RDR, you need Visa ARNs. Check back 2 to 4 business days after a refund if the ARN has not appeared yet.
