If you already use Deflect, review your setup when your store, business information, or payment details change. Update the receipt information customers use to recognize your business, and check whether your enrolled payment details still match your processor records.
This article covers changes to an existing Deflect setup. Deflect consists of Order Insight and Consumer Clarity. Their billing descriptors and enrollment statuses can differ. Prevent, Chargeback.io's chargeback alerts product, has separate enrollment settings.
What happens if I change my billing descriptor or payment processor?
Changing your billing descriptor or payment processor does not automatically require complete Deflect re-enrollment. The action depends on what changed: receipt content, an enrolled billing descriptor, or the identifiers used for Order Insight.
What changed? | What should you check? | When do you need Support? |
Store name, domain, address, support details, or product description | Update the receipt information in Profile. | Contact Support if you cannot complete an update or need its review outcome confirmed. |
A new or changed statement descriptor | Check the descriptor list in Business for each program you use. Add the new descriptor where needed. | Support handles unenrollment, re-enrollment, and changes to an existing enrollment that you cannot make with an add option. |
A different payment processor, gateway, or merchant account | Confirm whether the descriptor or Order Insight identifiers changed. | Ask Support to confirm the effect on your existing enrollment if it is unclear. |
An additional store or sales channel | Review its customer-facing details and actual statement descriptor. | Ask Support if the existing profile cannot accurately describe both stores. |
Changing your business name in your receipt profile is separate from changing the billing descriptor used for enrollment. A processor change does not automatically update your descriptors or payment identifiers in Deflect.
Update your store or business information
Update your store or business information in your Deflect Profile when the details shared with issuing banks need to change. This includes your customer-facing business name, website or store domain, address, customer support contacts, policy links, and product or service description.
Go to Deflect → Lookups → Configure.
Open Profile.
Update the fields affected by your changes.
Save your profile changes.
Use the business name customers see on your website. After changing a domain, check the website, contact page, and policy links so they lead to the current pages.
Receipt profile updates can undergo separate review for each active program. Saving an update does not confirm that both programs have applied it. Check the review confirmation for the relevant program. If an update is rejected, the previous receipt content remains live for that program; contact Support for help correcting and resubmitting it.
Updating receipt content does not change the descriptor your payment processor puts on statements or add a descriptor to a program's enrollment.
Check and add billing descriptors
Check your billing descriptors if you switch processors, rename your business, change your payment setup, or add a store or sales channel.
A billing descriptor is the text customers see beside a charge on their card statement. Deflect uses enrolled descriptors to identify your transactions when banks request purchase information.
Confirm the actual descriptor with your payment processor, including any processor prefix. Compare it with each program's enrolled list:
Go to Deflect → Lookups → Configure → Business.
Select Consumer Clarity.
Review its descriptor list for the descriptor used by your current payment setup.
If the descriptor is missing, use the option to add more descriptors.
Select Order Insight.
Review its descriptor list.
If a descriptor is missing from Order Insight, add it using the Order Insight instructions below.
Initial Deflect setup submits descriptors for both programs. Later additions are program-specific. Adding a descriptor to Consumer Clarity does not automatically add it to Order Insight, or the other way around. Check each program you use.
If a descriptor is already listed, check its status before adding it again. If you need to change an active descriptor, remove an old enrollment, or re-enroll an unenrolled descriptor, contact Chargeback.io Support. Support handles descriptor unenrollment and re-enrollment.
Check Order Insight identifiers after a processor change
Check your Order Insight identifiers after changing your payment processor, gateway, or merchant account. Deflect does not require a Shopify, Stripe, or other store or payment processor integration, so a processor change does not automatically stop Deflect.
Ask your processor whether the change affects your billing descriptor or the acquiring account identified by your existing Order Insight submission. An ARN identifies an individual transaction, so use ARNs associated with the payment setup you are submitting.
Order Insight requires one of these identifier options:
4 distinct Visa Acquirer Reference Numbers (ARNs). Each must contain exactly 23 digits, use digits only, and start with 2 or 7.
An acquirer BIN and CAID pair. The acquirer BIN identifies the acquiring institution; the Card Acceptor ID (CAID) identifies your merchant account within that setup. Ask your processor or gateway for the matching pair.
Use either 4 ARNs or a BIN and CAID pair in a submission. Mastercard Consumer Clarity does not require ARNs or BIN/CAID.
Switching processors does not automatically mean you need new ARNs. Whether you need additional identifiers depends on the payment setup your existing enrollment identifies. If you cannot confirm that it covers the new setup, ask Chargeback.io Support before assuming the existing identifiers still apply.
Add Order Insight payment details
Add Order Insight payment details from the Order Insight section of Deflect → Lookups → Configure → Business. This section provides options to add descriptors, ARNs, or BIN/CAID information. Consumer Clarity's descriptor-add option does not require those identifiers.
Open Order Insight in the Business tab.
Use the add option for the descriptor or identifier information you need to submit.
Enter the information for the payment setup being added.
Submit the information using the form.
Adding information is separate from replacing or removing an existing enrollment. If you need an existing identifier replaced, or the available form does not cover the change, contact Support. Do not assume a new submission removes previously enrolled details.
Check each program's enrollment status
Check each program's enrollment status after submitting changes. A descriptor being active in Consumer Clarity does not confirm that it is active in Order Insight.
Open Deflect → Lookups → Configure → Business.
Select Consumer Clarity.
Check the status beside each affected descriptor.
Open Status logs for the descriptor to review its history, including status updates.
Select Order Insight.
Review the affected descriptors and their Status logs.
Active: The descriptor is enrolled in the selected program. Check the other program separately.
Enrollment in progress: Enrollment is still being processed. This does not confirm activation.
An assistance or verification request: Review the request and contact Support with the descriptor and program name. If identifiers are invalid, ask your processor for valid Order Insight identifiers using the requirements above.
Activation and status changes can happen separately for each program. Descriptor enrollment status and receipt-update approval are separate checks; an active descriptor does not confirm that a recent profile edit has been applied.
Contact Support for enrollment changes you cannot make yourself
Contact Chargeback.io Support if you need an active descriptor changed or unenrolled, an unenrolled descriptor re-enrolled, an existing identifier replaced, or confirmation that your enrollment matches a new payment setup.
Include your business account name, the affected program, the old and new descriptors where applicable, what changed, and the status or message you see.
Merchants cannot initiate Deflect descriptor unenrollment themselves.
Support handles it separately for each descriptor and program. If a change involves moving to another provider, the affected enrollment must finish unenrollment and show Unenrolled before it can be enrolled with the new provider. Pending Unenroll does not mean it is ready to transfer.
