How to unenroll from Deflect or switch providers

Request Deflect unenrollment, check each program's status, understand lookup charges, and know when you can enroll with another provider.

Written by Theodore

To stop using Deflect, contact Chargeback.io Support to request unenrollment. Support removes the selected billing descriptors from Order Insight, Consumer Clarity, or both. Wait until each affected descriptor shows Unenrolled for the relevant program before enrolling it with another provider.

Deflect is Chargeback.io's offering of Order Insight and Consumer Clarity. This guide covers leaving Deflect. For Prevent, our chargeback alerts product, see Unenroll and remove billing descriptors.

Request Deflect unenrollment

Request Deflect unenrollment by contacting Support. You cannot initiate unenrollment yourself with a button in the Deflect dashboard.

In your message, list the exact descriptors and the program to remove each one from. Say whether you want to stop Deflect entirely or move only part of your enrollment. Include your business account name to help Support identify the account.

Each descriptor and program is handled separately. You can remove specific descriptors, leave one program, or stop both programs.

Removing a descriptor from Consumer Clarity does not automatically remove it from Order Insight, or the other way around.

Once Support begins unenrollment, the affected descriptor changes to Pending Unenroll. You'll receive an email when unenrollment begins. Deflect may continue sharing purchase information while unenrollment is being processed.

Track your unenrollment

Track your unenrollment separately for each descriptor and program. Consumer Clarity and Order Insight can have different descriptors and statuses.

  1. Open Deflect → Lookups → Configure → Business.

  2. Select Consumer Clarity or Order Insight.

  3. Locate the descriptor you asked Support to unenroll.

  4. Check its status.

  5. Click Status logs to review the descriptor's history.

  • Pending Unenroll: Unenrollment is in progress. You cannot enroll the descriptor with another provider for that program yet.

  • Unenrolled: The descriptor has been removed from that program through Chargeback.io. You may submit it for enrollment with another provider.

You'll also receive an email confirming completion. The completion email tells you, “You may enroll it with another provider.” If the email and dashboard status do not match, contact Support to confirm the descriptor has been released before proceeding.

How long unenrollment takes

Unenrollment times differ between Consumer Clarity and Order Insight. Chargeback.io cannot guarantee completion by a specific date.

Program

Unenrollment time

Consumer Clarity

Unenrollment can take up to a few business days. Processing time depends on the card network.

Order Insight

Support handles unenrollment manually. There is no confirmed fixed completion timeframe.

If you leave both programs, one may finish before the other. Check the affected descriptor in each program before moving it. If you need an update on a pending request, contact Support with the descriptor and program name.

When lookup charges stop

Submitting an unenrollment request does not automatically stop lookup charges. Deflect charges per bank lookup, and fees are deducted from your Chargeback.io balance.

A lookup is chargeable only when its program is Active at the time the lookup arrives:

  • Before your request: Fees incurred while the program was Active remain payable after you request unenrollment.

  • While unenrollment is processing: Lookups can still occur. They remain chargeable when the applicable program is Active.

  • After unenrollment: Previously incurred fees remain payable. Once the relevant program is no longer Active, new lookups for that program are not chargeable.

A descriptor's status is separate from the overall program status. Unenrolling one descriptor does not necessarily turn off the program. Other enrolled descriptors may keep the program Active and continue generating lookup charges.

An Unenrolled descriptor confirms its release from that program. The descriptor status alone does not confirm that all lookup billing has stopped. For charges associated with a descriptor after its release, ask Support to check the lookup's arrival time and the program status at that time.

If you are stopping Deflect entirely, ask Support to confirm that every Deflect program you use has finished unenrollment and is no longer Active. Unenrollment does not automatically cancel or refund lookup fees already incurred.

Switch to another provider

To switch Order Insight and Consumer Clarity to another provider, complete unenrollment for each descriptor and program you want to move.

  1. Request unenrollment through Chargeback.io Support using the steps above.

  2. Wait until the affected descriptor shows Unenrolled for the program you are moving.

  3. Follow your new provider's enrollment instructions.

You can move Consumer Clarity while keeping Order Insight with Chargeback.io, or the other way around. Chargeback.io does not enroll you with your new provider.

Release allows you to apply for enrollment, but does not guarantee the new provider will accept the descriptor or activate it immediately.
