If everything is set up correctly, your alerts should be activated within the following timeframes:

  • Ethoca and CDRN (Mastercard and Visa US only): 12 hours

  • RDR (Visa worldwide): 3 business days

    • If you set up RDR on a Friday, Verifi may take until the following Wednesday to activate RDR.

⚠️ In the worst-case scenario, Verifi could take up to 12 days to set up RDR, as they may have a backlog of businesses to add.

This is out of Chargeback.io's control

Factors That Can Delay Set-Up Time

Several factors can delay your account setup. If any issues arise, we will notify you via email.

To avoid unnecessary back-and-forth communication — which can further delay the process — please review the following common setup issues. Some of these require Chargeback.io to contact Ethoca or Verifi, adding extra time to your setup.

Here are the issues to consider:

  • General issues:

    • Your descriptor is already in use with another provider.

    • You have multiple Chargeback.io accounts with the same descriptor.

    • You haven’t set up ARNs and/or a descriptor.

  • RDR-specific issues:

    • Your BINs and CAIDs are in use with another provider.

    • Verifi requires an old billing descriptor.

    • You haven’t provided enough ARNs.

    • Your ARNs are invalid.

After setting up your account, verify that none of these issues apply. This will help ensure a smooth and timely activation.

1. Information is in Use With a Different Provider

One of the most common setup issues occurs when a business's descriptor, BINs, or CAIDs are still registered with another chargeback alert provider.

If you previously used a different provider, double-check that they have released your billing descriptor, BINs, and CAIDs before switching to Chargeback.io.

2. Duplicate Accounts

Having multiple Chargeback.io accounts using the same descriptor will prevent you from adding that descriptor to your active account.

For example, if you:

  • Set up Account A and add the descriptor "SP Disputer", Ethoca and CDRN will enroll Account A with that descriptor.

  • Later create Account B and try to add "SP Disputer", it won’t be possible because the descriptor is locked to Account A.

To resolve this, contact our support team to have the descriptor removed from the old account so it can be added to the correct one.

⚠️ This process can take several days since we must coordinate internally and forward the request to Ethoca or Verifi.

3. You Didn't Set up ARNs or Descriptors

If your dashboard appears incomplete, your account is not enrolled in alerts.

If your dashboard looks like this, you will not be enrolled under any alerts.

Ethoca and CDRN require descriptors to connect.

RDR requires a descriptor and 4 ARNs — or BINs and a CAID.

To complete enrollment, follow our integration guides for:

These guides will show you how to find and add your billing descriptor and ARNs. If you don't have any refunds for ARNs, you can forward your BINs and CAID to our customer support.

You must add 4 Visa refund ARNs. Submitting fewer will prevent Verifi from connecting your account to RDR.

Let's say you add ARNs.

Verifi only accepts ARNs from refunds processed in the last 90 days. If your ARNs are too old, Chargeback.io support will request newer ones. You may need to contact your payment processor for assistance.

You will need to obtain these by reaching out to your payment processor's customer support.

📧 Watch for our emails.

The follow-up email we would send in result to the ping would be the same information provided in the guides above.

4. Verifi Requests an Old Billing Descriptor

When setting up RDR, Verifi may request additional details to verify your business ownership. One common request is for a previously used billing descriptor.

If this happens, our chargeback account manager will email you with a hint, such as:

  • The number of characters in the descriptor

  • Some letters from the descriptor

Please respond as soon as possible to avoid setup delays.
