Connecting a payment processor to Chargeback is not necessary if you only enable RDR alerts.
If you enable auto-refund and enroll in Ethoca and CDRN alerts, you must connect to at least one payment processor. These providers do not automatically refund transactions by design.
Chargeback automatically processes refunds on your behalf with these alerts. Hence, why we require a connection to a payment processor.
If you do not want to connect a payment processor to Chargeback, you must disable auto-refund.
If you disable auto-refund, RDR will continue to automatically refund transactions. CDRN and Ethoca will not.
