This article applies to merchants who need an issuer BIN for Chargeback.io Support to troubleshoot missing Verifi or Ethoca chargeback alerts.
This article doesn't explain how to find acquiring BINs for activating Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR) chargeback alerts.
What to Know Before You Start
Sometimes Chargeback.io Support will ask for an issuer BIN when investigating why a chargeback alert didn't reach your account. Without the issuer BIN, Verifi and Ethoca cannot review the issuing bank details tied to that transaction.
An issuer BIN is the first 6 digits of the customer’s card. It identifies the bank that issued the card. Use issuer BINs only for troubleshooting missing alerts.
If you need to connect your account to Ethoca or Verifi for RDR, then use your acquiring BINs instead. For that process, use the guide for finding BINs and CAID.
How to Find Issuer BINs
This section explains whether you can get issuer BINs from your payment processor. It will also tell you how to find them in popular platforms.
If you use a payment processor other than Stripe or Shopify, check details of the transaction connected to the disputed transaction. You will need to look for the first 6 digits of the customer's card number.
If you can't find the issuer BIN in your transaction's details, ask your processor's support team if they can provide it. Though, most processors will not provide it.
1. Finding Issuer BINs in Stripe
Stripe doesn't provide issuer BINs because of PCI DSS rules.
2. Finding Issuer BINs in Shopify
This section explains how to find issuer BINs in Shopify Payments.
Step 1: Open the transaction timeline.
Step 2: Click the entry that says “$X.XX was authorized using…”
Step 3: Click “Information from the gateway.”
Step 4: Find the BIN
Search the page for “first digits” or “iin”
Go to Payment Method Details and look for IIN or First Digits
You can also find the authorization code in this section. If Support asks for the auth code, then use the authorization code guide.
Step 5: Copy the issuer BIN or IIN and send it to a Chargeback.io Support.
