Credit automation is active: what it means

What it means when Credit automation is active.

Written by Theodore

Chargeback.io is handling system credit requests for your business account. You do not need to upload proof for those requests while Credit automation remains active.

When Credit automation is active, the Credits page shows this banner:

Credit automation is active. New requests will be approved automatically.

This article is for users with the Owner or Administrator role in Chargeback.io. It explains what Active covers, how credit requests and emails change, and what to do if your processor access changes.

Active refers to your Credit automation setup, not the status of an individual credit request.

What does Active mean?

Chargeback.io has the payment processor access needed to handle your business account’s system credit requests.

For processors that require an invitation, access must be verified before they are included. The business account becomes Active once the required access is verified for all connected processors.

If your connected Stripe integration already provides the required transaction access, a separate invitation or access request is not needed for that integration.

Which credit requests are automated?

Credit automation handles system credit requests.

These are generated automatically by Chargeback.io for alerts that do not appear on the main Alerts page, including alerts with statuses such as Previously refunded, Failed transaction, Already a chargeback, or Duplicate.

They are different from credit requests you submit manually.

Request or alert

What happens when Credit automation is active

New system credit requests

The requests are automatically marked Approved. Chargeback.io handles the transaction checks and proof collection needed for them.

Existing system credit requests marked Requires proof from the previous 14 days

These requests change to Approved when access becomes Active.

Manual credit requests

These remain subject to normal manual verification. Credit automation does not automatically approve them.

Alerts without a system credit request

Credit automation takes no action. It does not search for alerts or create missing system credit requests.

You do not need to upload proof for system credit requests handled by Credit automation. This does not mean manual credit requests are automated.

Will credit-request emails stop?

Credit emails stop for the business account while Credit automation is active.

Enabling Credit automation does not turn off every Chargeback.io email. You can still receive other notifications, including updates about Credit automation or changes to processor access.

If the Credits page shows Active but you receive a new email asking for proof for a system credit request, contact Support with the business account, payment processor, and credit request details.

Do not assume the email relates to the same account or processor without checking.

What if you connect another payment integration?

An existing Active setup does not automatically include every newly connected integration.

If the new integration requires an access request, the Credits page shows a message explaining that a new integration was connected.

To add it:

  1. Open Credits for the affected business account.

  2. Click Restore payment account.

  3. Complete the access setup for the newly connected integration.

  4. Click Submit request to request verification for that integration only.

Do not repeat invitations or resubmit requests for integrations already included in an earlier request. The new integration must be verified before its system credit requests are covered.

If the Stripe tab shows Access already available, the integration already provides the required transaction access. No separate invitation or access request is needed for it.

What if Chargeback.io loses access to a processor?

If Chargeback.io can no longer access a payment processor account, automation stops for that processor. Other processors with valid access continue to operate.

The Credits page shows an access warning and a Restore payment account button. Open the access setup, correct the issue for the affected processor, and complete any required resubmission.

Losing processor access does not automatically change previously Approved system credit requests to Requires proof. Support will contact you if further action is needed. Follow any requests for information or proof you receive.

How do you turn off Credit automation?

Stripe-only accounts with automatic access do not have the Automation Active dropdown or a Turn off option. The following steps apply to accounts where that dropdown is available.

  1. Open Credits for the business account.

  2. Open the dropdown on Automation Active.

  3. Click Turn off.

  4. In the Turn off Credit Automation? confirmation pop-up, click Turn off again.

After you turn it off, new system credit requests are no longer processed automatically, and Automatic Credit Request emails resume. Follow the instructions in those emails.

The Automate credits button becomes available again.

To enable Credit automation later, use that button to submit a new automation request.

Turning off Credit automation does not remove Chargeback Admin access. To revoke access, remove Chargeback Admin manually from your payment processor.

What if an existing system credit request still asks for proof?

If Credit automation is Active but an existing system credit request still shows Requires proof, contact Support with the business account, payment processor, and credit request details.

The documented transition to Approved covers existing Requires proof system credit requests from the previous 14 days. Do not assume older requests or requests already marked Rejected have also changed.

You do not need to submit another access request solely because an individual credit request needs clarification.
