How to Connect Shopify to Chargeback.io
Follow this guide to connect Shopify to your Chargeback.io account.
Step 2 will focus on adding the app itself.
Step 1: Add Descriptor(s) & ARNs
Here’s a guide to help you find your descriptor(s) in Shopify Payments.
If you don’t have ARNs, review this article for alternative options.
How to add your descriptors and ARNs:
In the left sidebar, click Alerts.
Select Configure from the dropdown.
Choose the alert network (e.g., Ethoca) and click + Enroll More Descriptors.
For RDR, ARNs are required. If you don’t have ARNs, click Need Help Finding ARNs to override the requirement, or add your BIN and CAID.
Send your BIN and CAID to our support team. Include the email address used for your account so we can locate it.
Enter your descriptors and ARNs (if applicable).
Click Continue.
It typically takes around 12 hours to connect to Ethoca and CDRN, and up to 7 business days for RDR. If there’s a backlog, it may take longer (up to 14 days).
See this guide for details on setup timelines.
Step 2: Connect the Shopify App
These are two ways to connect Shopify Payments with Chargeback.io.
Method 1 (Recommended)
In the left sidebar, click Integrations.
Find the Shopify card and click Connect.
You’ll be redirected to the Shopify App page.
Log in to Shopify and select your store.
Click Install and review the requested permissions.
Click Install again to confirm.
You’ll be redirected back to Chargeback.io — the app will connect automatically.
Method 2 (Shopify App Store)
Go to the Shopify App Store.
Search for Chargeback: Auto-Prevention.
Click Install.
Follow steps 5–6 from Method 1.
Step 3: Set Up Auto-Refund
Skip this step if you plan to automatically refund all disputed transactions.
To set an auto-refund threshold (limit automatic refunds above a certain amount):
In the left sidebar, click Alerts.
Choose Configure.
Switch to the Auto-Refund tab.
Ensure the toggle beside Ethoca and CDRN is green (enabled).
Click Edit.
Set your desired threshold and save.
⚠️ Transactions above the threshold will appear as manual alerts that require action.
Unresolved alerts may still result in chargebacks.
Step 4: Add a Balance
A balance is required to exit Demo Mode and start enrollment.
In the lower-left corner of your dashboard, click Please top up balance here.
Under Current Balance, click Add Funds.
Enter your desired amount and click Continue.
Funds will be charged to the card you added during signup.
If you don’t have a balance, you won’t be able to add a new card yourself.
