How to Connect Stripe to Chargeback.io
Follow this guide to connect Stripe to your Chargeback.io account. Step 2 focuses on adding the app.
Prerequisites
Verified Stripe account with admin access
Billing descriptor(s) and ARNs (or BINs and CAID)
Step 1: Add Descriptor(s) & ARNs
Here’s a guide to help you find your descriptor(s) in Stripe.
If you don’t have ARNs, review this article for alternative options.
How to add your descriptors and ARNs
In the sidebar, click Alerts.
Select Configure from the dropdown.
Choose the alert network (e.g., Ethoca) and click + Enroll More Descriptors.
For RDR, ARNs are required. If you don’t have ARNs, click Need Help Finding ARNs to override the requirement or add your BIN and CAID.
- Send your BIN and CAID to our support team. Include the email used on your account so we can locate it.Enter your descriptors and ARNs (if applicable).
Click Continue.
It typically takes ≈ 12 hours to connect to Ethoca and CDRN, and ≈ 7 business days to connect to RDR (up to 14 if there’s a backlog).
See enrollment timelines for more.
Step 2: Connect the Stripe App
Method 1 (Recommended)
In the left sidebar, click Integrations.
Find the Stripe card.
Click Connect.
You’ll be redirected to Stripe’s app installation page.
Click Continue.
Select the Stripe account you want to connect.
Review the requested permissions.
Click Install.
You’ll be redirected back to Chargeback.io.
After the redirect, the Stripe app installs automatically. You can confirm the connection under Integrations.
Method 2 (Stripe App Marketplace)
Go to the Stripe App Marketplace and search for Chargeback.
Click Install from Partner.
Follow steps 6–8 from Method 1.
Step 3: Set Up Auto-Refund
Skip this step if you plan to automatically refund all disputed transactions.
To set an auto-refund threshold (limit automatic refunds above a certain amount):
In the left sidebar, click Alerts.
Choose Configure.
Open the Auto-Refund tab.
Ensure the toggles for Ethoca and CDRN are enabled (green).
Click Edit.
Set your desired threshold and save.
⚠️ Transactions above the threshold appear as manual alerts requiring action. Unresolved alerts can still result in chargebacks.
Step 4: Add a Balance
A balance is required to exit Demo Mode and begin enrollment.
In the lower-left corner of your dashboard, click Please top up balance here.
Under Current Balance, click Add Funds.
Enter your amount and click Continue.
Funds are charged to the card you added during signup.
If you don’t have a balance, you won’t be able to add a new card yourself. To update your payment method, contact support.
Step 5: Enable Stripe Dispute Network Token
Optional but highly recommended, especially if you use RDR.
Enabling this token prevents RDR alerts from appearing as chargebacks in Stripe analytics — improving accuracy.
To enable it
Contact Stripe Support.
Send this message:
> Can you please activate the “dispute_network_token” on my account? If the agent isn’t familiar, ask to escalate to a team member who knows the feature.
ℹ️ You don’t need to notify Chargeback.io after enabling this.
Step 6: Enable Wallet Mode in Stripe Link
This step is optional but strongly recommended, especially if you accept Stripe Link payments.
Chargeback.io will likely not be able to trace transactions paid with Stripe Link due to payments being tokenized. If we do deliver alerts for Stripe Link transactions, almost all of the transaction information can't be found in the transaction.
The easiest solution for this is to ask Stripe to enable Wallet Mode in Link.
If Stripe Link transactions make up a majority of your chargebacks, consider temporarily disabling it until your chargeback rate lowers. From there, you can decide whether to re-enable it.
How to Disconnect Stripe
In the sidebar, click Integrations.
Find the Stripe card and click Disconnect.
You’ll be redirected to the Stripe Apps page.
If the app is still installed on Stripe:
Go to Installed Apps in Stripe.
Click the three dots next to the Chargeback app.
Select Uninstall.
After uninstalling, Stripe and Chargeback.io are fully disconnected.
⚠️ Disconnecting the Stripe app does not stop alerts. To fully stop receiving alerts, fill out this unenrollment form.
Important Notes
If the Stripe app fails to match a transaction to your Chargeback.io dashboard:
Mark the transaction as Not Found.
Troubleshooting
Error: “Account Already Connected”
If you have another Chargeback.io account, log into it and check if it’s already linked to your Stripe store.
If not, uninstall the app from Stripe and reinstall it.
